Metabolic Syndrome Assessment

One in three Americans have Metabolic Syndrome, which is a cluster of conditions that can lead to Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Disease. According to the American Heart Association and National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, there are 5 risk factors that make up Metabolic Syndrome. If you have 3 or more of these conditions related to your metabolism at the same time it means that you have Metabolic Syndrome and you are 5 times more likely to develop Diabetes and your risk for Heart disease is doubled. The risk factors are:

1 – Waist size or Obesity: men  40 inches, women 35 inches or a BMI of greater than 30.

  • This is also called abdominal fat. Excess fat in the stomach area is a greater risk factor for heart disease than excess fat in other parts of the body.

2 – High Triglycerides: 150 mg or higher

  • Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood.

3 – Cholesterol Low HDL: men less than 40mg, women less than 50mg

  • HDL is sometimes called “good” cholesterol. This is because it helps remove cholesterol from your arteries thus reducing the plaque buildup. A low HDL cholesterol level raises your risk for heart disease.

4 – High Blood Pressure: Systolic 130mm or higher, Diastolic 85mm or higher

  • Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage your heart and lead to plaque buildup.

5 – Blood Sugar High fasting Glucose Level: 100mg or higher

  • Mildly high blood sugar may be an early sign of diabetes.

The good news is that these conditions can be prevented or reversed with a modified lifestyle including proper nutrition and exercise as well as an effective sleep and stress management program. The first step is to screen and measure these risk factors in a simplistic, individualized manner with results available in 5 minutes. From the results, proper, proactive steps can be initiated to prevent or reverse serious chronic health diseases and begin a journey to optimal wellness!

It is a simple finger blood draw with results in less than 10 minutes at no cost to the patient.
